Giant snowballs and ice show

On Friday the main roads had been cleared of most of the snow so we were able to drive to the Christmas ice show that we booked weeks ago.
We started out with a quick check in on the igloo. Can you see Googs' frown? lol he is really time conscious and he was worried that we would be late for the show :o)
At the show. The camera did not do the show justice but I added some grainy pictures anyway. The show was a good couple of hours and everyone danced to Christmas songs. It was lovely!

Oooh I am in such a baking mood at the moment. Yesterday I made a pound cake from wee folk art.
The boys spent the day today outside rolling giant snowballs down the hill.

And this is what is left of our igloo :o( Sunny weather caused it to come crashing down, the boys finished the rest off and this is all that's left.
The girls chose to stay inside today and put up our Christmas decorations
More baking today. These are Wonky pumpkin and cinnamon rolls.
with caramel icing. They were DIVINE!!!!!!!!! I think that we will have to build another igloo just to burn off all these extra calories!

We made an igloo!!!!!

We had even more snow!
But somehow the milk lady still made it to the house! We were very impressed.
Look how thick it was yesterday morning. It has snowed since and is much thicker.
Obviously baking HAS to be done :o)
And then we started on the igloo! First we built the foundations
We made bricks using a Tupperware box.
We had to stop due to lack of light....and we were hungry!
Today - more snow! There are steps there somewhere.
In the back garden the snow was thigh high!
The boys created a ramp on the hill :0D


and while they played in the back, I got on with the igloo. Here I am making bricks. The snow doesn't look as thick because it has been trampled down :o)
I cheated using a wooden board over the doorway. It worked perfectly.
Because I was working with a sloping roof, I shaped the bricks.
Now there is a gap in photos which makes it all look timeless and oh so easy...in reality it took me 2 days to complete it :o)
Ta da! The entrance tunnel still needs to be made...maybe tomorrow.
It is hard to show the size inside,there is room for many more children than pictured :o)
hubby coming down to admire the completed igloo.
After a lovely warm bath to defrost, we had baked rice pudding to warm up our tummies :o)

Sledging and felt stockings

Even more snow last night which meant that there was enough for sledging! (I keep calling it sledding but apparently in England it is sledging)

And back inside to warm up with hot chocolate and the last of the koeksisters.
Instead of a chocolate filled advent calendar this year, the kids are going to get a chocolate a day to put into a stocking which they will then be able to eat on Christmas eve!
I was going to crochet 4 stockings but in the end I thought that it would be much better if the kids could make their own out of felt.
We cut out 2 pieces of felt or each stocking and pinned them together.
The sewed a blanket stitch around, joining the two pieces together.
Then to decorate them!
Aren't they just fabulous!
